Default My New $29 Baja Work Bench!!

Its nothing special but I am tired of working on things on the kitchen table, so for $20 for the bench top and a few 2x4's I was ready to work.

Looking good.

Throw in some more 2x4's and some plywood and you have yourself a shelf in there as well.

I use the same top on my benches.
They hold up pretty well. You may want to use a pad so it doesnt scratch up to bad.

Nice job!

I couldent believe how cheap those pre made tops are. A six foot section was only $30! I got the four foot for just $20 for now. The shelf idea already crossed my mind but I ran out of time. Maybe next weekend..

Home Depot has a scratch and dent section. Not sure why but there always seems to be a 4 foot white section or two there.

FYI, they fit directly on top of a 4 foot Gorilla rack section. Most of my benches are a 1/2 height gorilla racks (One rack makes 2 4 foot benches)

That looks nice, adding a couple drawers and a pegboard back would be usefull.

I like their "corner unit". Cuts down on the reaching and you can expand in either or both directions.

If you can get ahold of a stainless steel elevator door from an elevator with center opening doors they work great. They are a little over 2 feet wide and 8 feet long. I have a ton of room to work.

I have made a second bench and added a podium for the Baja to sit. I just need a Baja stand and my Baja and I am set..

Nice workbench.... I'd add a shelf underneath and some peg board on the back. DONE!

Counter tops make great clean workspace. I got lucky and scored a used "L" shaped top around 11'x8' when my mother remodled her kitchen. Same deal with a middle shelf and some peg board. Made it custom hieght so it was comfortable working while sitting on a stool. I also a added a hinged flip up counter top on the left side since this picture and a center shelf. I can fold it down incase a large item needs to be moved into the space. Usually the woodstove out and the fridge in for summer.LOL

I found these great butcher block tables at Ikea, not as cheap as the generic counter top pieces from Lowes or Home Depot, but they are HEAVY tops, and with the basic steel legs, they are $100. Ill post a pic up later with the style.

nice idea, what does a count top go for these days. Think I might do the same someday. Theres an old work bench in my place that i rent but my roomates keep piling there crap on it which makes it hard to work on so would be a good idea to build one big enough to call my own with a vice added in case I need it. Can also go to work and use a vise but usually half to wait til sunday when the service department is closed at the auto dealer.
