Default Starting issues with redcat rampage XT

My girlfriend and I took the xt out for her maiden voyage. I filled the tank with premix I use for baja 25x1. It started in 4 pulls but was idling a little fast so i backed the idle down with throttle control knob on the radio. It ran good for a while and started this baull, when on the throttle. Carb was set from factory and i did not set. It tough as hell to start it, you would pull like crazy. I adjusted the needles to stock setting according to ddm 1 1/2 on HI and 1 1/4 on low. It turned out that the low spd was only a 1/4 turn opened. I dried the plug out, and put it back in, and got it to run for maybe 30 seconds. I'm pissed, the metal gromet under the starter handle came loose, the rope has grooved the start shroud, my baja starts in 3 to 4 pulls. I could not have burnt it up as i had the proper premix etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh I followed the prime it first method put choke knob in vertical position pull starter till it sputters put choke knob in horizontal position pull until it starts, Same way i start my baja.

Here is my game plan. Ordered new ngk plugs from ddm. ordered Walbro carb because I was told the the knock off walbro imitation is junk that came on it. The only other things i think i could do is clean chinese carb and set the air gap between flywheel and armiture. Would you use a business card? That is what i used to set the air gap on lawn mowers etc

A business card is what is needed to set the coil gap you are correct. It is possible if its hard to pull as it would grab the flywheel
