Default Team FastEddy DuneToberFest Build Thread

Last year everyone was all blinged out with some great rigs. This year for me its all about performance and building the most solid rig I possibly can. Im not going to do anything fancy with custom colors as I did with my Agent Orange project for RCX. Im going to keep most everything natural in color.

Ill be starting off with a Baja 5B RTR as the base unit. Seeing as how most everything will be upgraded its the best way for me to go. So far I have collected a majority of the parts ill be using. Ill be doing reviews on all the parts as I go along.

A few highlights to the project are a full line of every turtle racing product including a few that are yet to be seen on the market. This will Insure that im structurally sound. It will be powered by a darksoul Beast Motor and darksoul meaty bones to handle all the power. It will be sporting a Modifier LED scoop to run at night.

Ill be posting up photos of the project as it progresses.

Very cool Eddy, can't wait to see some progress pics. I to am going to try and keep it simple this year while getting the car ready for Dunetoberfest. Nice and light if possible with a big power plant....

Its all taken apart right now and Im deanodizing the purple.

Hmm.... I feel a tutorial brewing.

OK, here's a dumb question: Why does everyone dislike the purple color of the Baja? I like it, but I also like the color purple.

Just seems that everyone takes it to bare aluminum. Problem is unless you re-plate it with something, the aluminum will oxidize and not look great.......

I think its more of a variety thing more so than the poople color everyone just wants to make it there own and dumping the poople or the orange lets you do just that.

Cant wait to see what you come up with Ed.

It wont be anything visually spectacular. I got that out of my blood a while back. This is going to be a solid platform built to run.

Im still making some decisions on what to do. Ill be full on to the build by next week.

Well I finally got going on the build this last weekend.
Im playing around with 2 different chassis colors right now. I was originally going to use a special epoxy paint and do a yellow build. As I started playing with it, I didn't like it so decided to get it anodized a special color. I have it all down at the ano shop now. When I cam in this morning and looked at the epoxy paint, it came out a lot better then I thought it did. Im guessing that the curing time over the weekend made a big difference. So now Im stuck on what to do. I may just do both.

I put together the rear end. I used:
  • turtle racing diff saver
  • Turtle Racing Drive cups.
  • All HD gears inside the Transmission
  • team fasteddy bearings all the way around including the diff upgrade.
  • 30,000 wt Diff fluid. (Very Stiff)
  • Longer bolts all the way through the case.
  • Nuts over the bolts on the case.

Wow is this puppy smooth. I keep going into the workshop just to spin it.

Looks good Eddy. I like that Yellow. You should throw some blue on that thing and go that route. I myself like the Blue/Yellow combo. Its only the rear but I am an Ass man at heart.

I decided to go with an anodized chassis and parts for the build rather then a yellow. Its hard to see but the anodizing on my parts are a Nickle color or a Platinum if the light hits it right.
  • turtle racing Front shock tower and brace combo
  • Turtle racing Front Plate
  • Threshold front bulkhead
  • Custom anodized
