I have 3 of those. You can't get parts anymore. I have the ball diff on all of mine which I made. I make all my own replacement parts.

Re: Monster truck :: 1995 Custom built 1/5 scale monster truck

Might look to the few 1/4 scale manufacturers left for any possible replacement parts.
I know some parts interchange between the different mfgs.

This looks like an older New Era model maybe ...

king quarterscale - Do you know the mfg of that model ? WCM ? New Era ?

It was WCM and they don't have parts for these anymore. That's why I make my own.

Doing some work on my 1/5 monster truck right now. I'm adding a new body mount system and more realism to the chassis. Over the summer I re-designed the upper and lower shock mounts added new long travel shocks with 4" travel and improved the steering system.

I just ordered material to start building the NEW steering rack for my MT truck to use 1/4 scale size servos.

Re: Monster truck :: 1995 Custom built 1/5 scale monster truck

New steering rack is finished. Works well but I need metal gear servos to see best results.. Uses standard size 1/4 size servos and I made some improvements like a lock out feature for the rear and the ability to use the larger size servos 66 mm size. Unfortunately you can't use servo savers for the larger size servos.

It's hard to find those truck parts. It's cool that you have custom-built it. Nice work!

Re: Monster truck :: 1995 Custom built 1/5 scale monster truck

I use what standard parts I can find and make the rest. Everything has changed and old parts are hard to find. I make old hard to find parts to keep my fleet running. I just finished a new steering rack system that uses 2 standard size 1/4 servos but because the servos I have now Hitec 705 they are not strong enough to steer a monster truck. The Hitec 805 is slightly larger and there is no servo saver on the market strong enough to work so direct is the only option. I am waiting for some CYS servos to arrive that are standard 1/4 size with 500 oz. each and I will try them with my new steering rack system. They should work as I use a Tone 050 servo @ 7.2 volts @1100 oz. power. I am always trying new ideas.

Re: Monster truck :: 1995 Custom built 1/5 scale monster truck

My CYs servos arrived and I installed them. 500 oz. @ 6 volts moves the tires but when I put the second one on I had problems. Too much current draw for the standard Y harness I had. I ordered a heavy duty harness and the problem went away. Now the testing can begin with driving. I plan on trying a Rovan RS2050D servo later as it is the next size servo up with 650 oz @ 6 volts. Still noting can compare to The Tone 050 servos for power to voltage output and price.

Re: Monster truck :: 1995 Custom built 1/5 scale monster truck

The power of the 2 CYS servo dose the job but compared to the Tone 050 servo they fall short. The servos are power hungry. Still they do work. The Cys servos will make good servos for 1/4 scale size servos.
