Default DLE 32 question

Hi.
I am new to the Gas engine "thing". I just got my DLA 32 cc engine for my SBach, and noticed some sort of black sensor on the front of the engine. It seems like there is a little magnet or something on the shaft that it reads and measures RPM with? Is this a tacho? If so, how does it work? Where do you plug it in and how can you see the output?

I have a DX8 Tx with AR9000 Rx with telemetry.

Is this for Heli's or aeroplanes, as not quite sure where you are going with this, you might need to find an aeroplane forum.

I'm not sure what you mean by "not sure where you are going with this". The questions are obvious. Is the black sensor an RPM sensor and is there a way of connecting it to some sort of display to see the RPM...?

In my post I stated that it is for an SBach, which is an aeroplane. Isn't this an aeroplane forum?

Although this isn't an Airplane forum, to answer your question the "Thing" you are referring to on the front of the engine is part of the Electronic Ignition system. DLE makes a Tach system DLE Gasoline Engines - On-Board Digital Tachometer that pulgs directly into the ignition box.

Well, I happen to be a flier, what that little thing is near the prop hub is the ignition crankshaft trigger sensor. What that does is it tells the ignition module when to to fire the spark. it is also a tach drive as stated earlier. One thing about that sensor though, you will notice that it has slots for adjustment, don't loosen the screws holding it on or you will mess up the ignition timing.
