Default What charger to buy

Hi all :)

Just about to finish my Baja 5b ss build and Iím having a hard time finding a good charger. I live in Norway so i can`t buy a US charger.:(

Got the "ddm "Black Magic" Ni-MH 6v Hump Receiver Battery Pack for HPI Baja 5b/5T (4600mah)" and "DX3.0 DSM 3CH Radio with 3Ch Rx" that need charging.

Whatever you choose, I HIGHLY recommen taking note of the charger's specified input.

I am from Australia and bought a Vision Peak 2 AC/DC charger and plugged it into my wall socket at 240V and completey wrecked the AC circuit as it is a US charger and only takes 110VAC through the AC circuit.

After many weeks of frustration trying to look for transformers etc. I had to buy myself a 12V 20AH SLA battery and hook it up to the DC terminals to use it.

IMO this charger is pretty good, especially since you can choose 1, 2, or 4 Amp charges rates, which is perfect for your 4600mah battery. I can charge my 3000mah receiver battery in about half an hour!! The LCD display is pretty handy as well.

Check it out:

Its pretty good value IMO.

Out of curiosity, how many mah is your DX3.0 battery pack?

Hope you don't have too much trouble finding the right one:hi:

Also you may want to look and a higher end charger that can handle LIpos because you may want to charge them in the future and that way you will not need another charger. I know you dont think you ever will and that is what I said and now I am looking for another charger.

Hey all...I just love this forum and all the best info u can get. I had the same prob with the stock charger...me being too impatient plugged the stock charger straight into the wall and nothing happens...Im in Mauritius and we use 240vc and the input on the stock is 110vc. Got a 450 transformer and still not charging. Anyways went on ddm and bought this:

you could also go with a venom pro charger or the venom pro charger plus. i myself have a pro charger plus and i am happy with it. the venom pro charger plus is available in a us ad a eu version and retails for 159.99 however it is cabable of charging ni-cd, ni-mh, lipo, life, pb (lead acid), Li-ion.

more specifically here are the specs:

operating voltage range 10.0 - 18.8v
circuit power max 150w
charge current range 0.1 - 7.0a
current drain for balancing lipo 300Mah/cell
ni-cd/ni-mh battery cell count 1-27 cells
Li-ion/polymer cell count 1-8 series
discharge rate .01 - 5A
Pb (lead acid) voltge 2 to 36V
weight 700g/24.4oz.
dimensions 160x120x40mm
charge cycles 1 - 5
usb mini usb
memory chage parameters 10
POWER SUPPLY (included in pro charger plus)
input 100 - 240V - 1.8A 50 - 60Hz
output 12V - 12.5A

only drawback is that it is NOT compatible with windows vista, vista x64, win 7, or win 7 x64. i have no info pertaining to other O/S's except there have been some that have been able to get the included pc software to work in vista and vista x64 but no one has been able to get the pc software for this charger to work in windows 7 at all.

Being in the USA, I don't know any good european chargers, sorry. I do know you need to figure out exactly what your looking for. Your charger is one place where a few extra dollars can save you a bunch of time and hastle. If your on a budget, you might be able to afford more features if you get a DC only charger.

These chargers have all the same features, but half the price of that Venom charger http://www.killerrc.com/store/store....balancecharger

The Thunder AC6 is the best bang for the buck, in my opinion.

the imax b8 is a clone of teh venom pro charger (lower end model to the one i am recommending and own ;) ). buy the name brand and not a clone and spend a little more and get teh pro charger plus over the standard pro charger.

Lots of good chargers out there. I'd just pick one that is compatable with the various types of batts available like what some people here have suggested.
