Default Darksoul / HPI Baja Road Race Build

I am putting the order together now, and hopefully by the end of the week will have all the parts on hand to start my Road Racer build. This will be a similar build to my Race Truck build -

http://www.rclargescale.com/forum/sh...ght=race+truck

I will go through it step by step for each section, mod by mod, and explain why I am doing and why. When I am ready for the suspension, I will bring in Jason Mac, one of our team drivers to do all the suspension setup, and explain what does what.

I have a few people that are setting me up with some parts, as usual, we have -

darksoul Racing
team fast eddy
HPI Racing
Craftwerk RC

And more to come. Stay tuned and keep checking back for regular updates, I am going to build this one pretty fast as well.

I want in....Maybe we can get you some of the new DT1 filters? We have the on-road style that will give you maximum intake with good filtration.

Looking forward to the build.

Heck ya, send me out one of the high flow units for the build, we have been using microphone covers since the road surface is pretty clean, but these may be the way to go.

Sweet, thanks guys, Jason Mac has pretty much come up with the perfect recipe for a road racer that I am following, he spanked all at the onroad large scale nats last year, and has been pretty much dominant at all of the road races he has attended, so I think this will be a rock solid rig.

The first of the parts are here, the Baja SS kit (less motor) Futaba 3PL radio, and a few of the upgrades that will be going onto it.

Jason Mac will be here anytime to put together the shocks, sort of the key element for a road racer.

Also, some bits have shown up from tgn, and stuff from tfe should be here today, and much more on the way.

This should be a good one. The last write up you did was very well done. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

This should be a good thread to watch. Jason has some serious tips and tricks for these things...several of which will make the handling of your onroad racer night and day difference from what you had.

OK, getting to work on the build, have amassed quite a pile of parts with more rolling in as we go. Fast Eddy sent me the necessary tfe parts for the build-

- Bleeder Caps (front and rear)
- steering hub cone/spacer units

- Shims
- Front and rear turnbuckles

Click the image to open in full size.

Of course there is a pile of other stuff-

Titanium layshaft from Craftwerk RC

A DT1 Air Filter from tgn

Of course a bunch of stuff from darksoul-

- v.3 dogbones
- 74t steel spur gear
- Axle extenders
- Aluminum servo saver
- 4 front shock shafts
- spring perches
- shock collars

From killer rc a LiFE Rx receiver pack

And more to come, plus some cool tips and tricks from Jason Mac, the current Baja road race champ. Ill be adding to this constantly over the next week or two, so keep checking back.

So Jason showed up yesterday ready to start building, and since he is the master of suspension for onroad, he took the reins for the shocks. I will be posting up in more detail this weekend, but just a quick teaser pic of the complexity of shocks, and how many parts there really are in these things. Keeping in mind that there are a few parts that would never be used for offroad racing, they are pretty specific to road racing only.

Its important to point out that shocks for a road racer are everything. Without the shocks properly being setup, you just simply will not be able to get around the track quickly. Jason has been working on Baja racing suspension like a madman for the last year, and has gone through MANY iterations to get where we currently are now. So if you plan on getting into some road racing with your Baja, the suspension sections are going to be where you REALLY need to pay attention.

Click the image to open in full size.

I will be posting close up pics of all the pertinent parts, and Jason will be chiming in for anyone that has specific questions. More to come on the suspension a little later.
